Zuma Beach

A veritable painting of blue waters, a clean beige shore, and the characteristic white lifeguard tower.

At times being sparsely populated, it offers the lucky visitor a unique existential experience by opportunity of quiet contemplation, and at other times there is less sand seen than picnic baskets and beach towels where lain upon them are often people dressed in an assortment of beach appropriate clothing that reveals skin yearning to be kissed and caressed by the sun’s rays.

But as always, be it lit by moonlight or the sun’s, the frothy waves issued from the deep blue yonder will continue, as it has for millenniums, to lap assiduously against the sand bar, ever inviting those who seek to relish the abundance of the ocean, while the sands remain indiscriminately pliable to the force of pressure, capturing perfect moulds of the many footprints that have been left behind in the wake of the frolicking with lovers, friends and families; some will survive nature’s fickle temper, while some may be found precious enough to be taken by the sea's ebbing waves.

When the hour arrives and it is time to be torn away from Zuma Beach, though the once chortling children would now wear heavy, downcast facial expression and the adults would sigh upon being confronted by an inevitable reality, as they march towards the parking lot, they will remember the fun they have had at the beach splashing in the sea, surfing the waves, flying diamonds on the winds and the kingdoms built of sand, and think to themselves with a tender eagerness, welling up softly, of their next visit to Zuma Beach.

Tips Before You Go
During the period between December and May, Zuma and Westward beaches are recommended by locals, as the best locations to catch grey whale sightings during their migration towards the Arctic. Amenities (showers, restrooms, picnic tables, beach wheelchairs) and services (concession stands and a restaurant) are available to render your visit to the beach more convenient and comfortable.
