Yue Fei Temple (岳王廟)

A sacred ground that includes imposing temples and national hero Yue Fei’s tomb.

Built to honour the general Yue Fei, Yue Fei Temple is more commonly known as Yuewang Temple in Chinese, a name that confers the highest status to Yue Fei. As the time-honoured embodiment of justice and loyalty, the brave general had dedicated his life to his country only to succumb to an assassination plot that came about after much political scheming. From Chinese paintings and poems to stone statues, the solemn temple ground is the place to watch Yue Fei’s life unravel as a commemoration of his service to the country. Stop by Yue Fei Mausoleum to pay tribute to Yue Fei and his son, or visit the Tower of Devotion and Loyalty that speaks of divine punishment to Yue Fei’s murderers and their co-conspirators. With a treasure trove of culture and information, Yue Fei Temple is the perfect place to get into the heart of Chinese history and its captivating duality of honour and vice.

Tips Before You Go
Look out for the “helpful” locals at the entrance who will give you advice on what to see and do. These people will offer to even guide you, and then ask for a fee after you’re done with your tour. They are actually working for the various establishments here, although you wouldn’t know it since they don’t identify themselves as such until after you are done. If you don’t wish to be misled, then politely decline them and carry on your merry way.
