Yongmeori Beach (용머리해안)

From afar the beach resembles a dragon’s head going underwater.

The Yongmeori Beach is situated where Mt Sanbangsan reaches into the sea and from afar, it is akin to a dragon’s head going underwater. The beach is made out of Sa-am stacks which have been built over millions of years. The beach also feature several interestingly-shaped geological features which create a majestic view. Along the road towards the shore lies Hamel Castaway Memorial which was built to commemorate Hamel who drifted over in 1653. From the beach you can also observe the women sea divers of Jeju Island who sell seafood and stroll along the shore. If you are visting, do expect to pay a nominal fee to enter. But it’s definitely worth it, as this beach is a cultural gem that you will not be able to experience anywhere else in the world.
