Yangon Zoological Gardens

A zoo, museum, and amusement park built into one.

The site has a long history that dates back to the 1900s, making it the oldest zoo in Myanmar. It is not surprising that more than a million local and foreign visitors set foot here each year, as it is also home to The Natural History Museum and The Zoological Garden Amusement Park. With the main aim of educating the public on the country’s wildlife, approximately 200 species of and 1,100 animals reside on the popular site for this purpose. These include several endangered species such as the marsh crocodile (which is extinct in Myanmar!) and the Burmese large tortoise. More than 300 species of flora can be found here too, with taxidermy exhibitions of rare native species being displayed in the museum. For animal lovers who are keen to see the capabilities of various animals, animal shows are held over the weekends and public holidays. If you’ve had enough of viewing animals for the day, head to the roller coaster in the amusement park for some thrill and fun!
