A Buddhist temple of the Jogye Order in Jeju Island, South Korea.
The Yakchunsa Temple situated in Jeju Island, South Korea, is a place for Buddhist worship and offers temple stay programmes for visitors who may wish to experience Buddhist culture and their way of life. The temple was built on a site where a mineral water spring flows from the ground. Locals term this site as ‘Dwaeksaemi’ which is a Jejudo word directly translating into ‘a mineral spring with good quality water’. The temple remains a culturally significant monument as it contains one of the largest Dharma Halls in the whole of Asia and the biggest wooden Buddha statue in the country. Inside the temple also sits a bell which weighs a whopping 18 tons - all of which reflect the past glory of the temple that once stood on the site.
