Xigia Beach

Past the pebbly shores of Xigia lie its cool, healing waters illuminated by the afternoon sun.

A distinctive sour smell often assaults visitors as they first step into the bay area. Yet Xigia beach is famous for precisely this reason since the oddly familiar scent is a result of sulfur that has seeped into the seawater from mining coves a stone’s throw away. Let the cool water wash over you to ease the aches between your joints and drift with the gentle current as the sun warms your skin. Known for its therapeutic properties against cellulite and arthritis, Xigia beach’s waters are much sought after for a relaxing dip. The shore falls away rapidly a few meters into the ocean however, with depths of over 10 meters so swimming skills would be rather handy while at the beach. A rather curious quirk of the beach comes from the tavern at the beach which interestingly uses a basket on rails to collect orders and deliver dishes to and from a reception at the shore. If you’re looking to spend a relaxing day to ease the kinks in your muscles after extended travelling, drop by Xigia beach and you won’t be disappointed.

Tips Before You Go
You would need to rent a car if Xigia Beach is on your itinerary. The elusive beach is found at the bottom of the bay and hidden from view as you drive from Zakynthos towards Skinarii. One way to locate the beach would be to look out for an easily spotted wide beachfront while driving and to turn back a few kilometers from that point. This should lead you to the slip road approaching Xigia where there are spots to leave your car before you make your way to the sulfur rich waters.
