As handsome as the most majestic steed, this mountain watches over rich and vibrant parkland.
20 peaks form a rugged and jagged silhouette reaching 5000 metres above sea level. All are dusted with a layer of snow like fine icing powder on top of a cake, creating a monochromatic scene of blues, greys and pure white. One rising far and high above the rest is the king of giants, Zalaqueni Peak. This peak is what gives the national park its name of white horse mountains, because the peak looks like the head of a horse, wearing a cap of pale snow. Peaks are interrupted by deep valleys filled with lush greenery, which is shrouded in snow in the winter, and turns into a vibrant display of fiery red, burnt orange and warm brown come autumn.
The park is home to a number of rare and unique animals, including 10 species of plants and 10 animals under special state protection. The Yunnan Golden monkey is a world treasure with its distinctive snub nose, and fur which turns from pure white when young into a dark black in later life. It is also home to the elusive clouded leopard and adorable red pandas. The landscape is variable and stunning, with lava caverns, glittering lakes, waterfalls, hot springs and other natural wonders that make it a dramatic spectacle showcasing the best of our planet.
