This unique park offers both a getaway from the city and a passport to one of its up-and-coming cultural centres.
Amsterdam’s Westerpark is an ingenious marriage of rejuvenating calm and thriving youth culture, creating a trendy yet relaxed haven in the middle of the city. The park, not to be confused with the Westerpark neighbourhood in which it lies, is roughly split into two parts: the old Westerpark, which was built in the 19th century and looks much like a typical picturesque European park, and the Westergasfabriek, a complex of old factory buildings given new life as a creative avant-garde public space.
You will never run out of things to do in Westerpark. It houses a cinema, several cafes and restaurants, as well as bars and clubs. The old park is perfect for a morning jog, a relaxed stroll or simply lounging by the lakeside with a picnic and a book, while the new one promises delicious food, top-notch entertainment and exciting nightlife.
