Wave Organ

Fancy attending a unique outdoor concert created not by musicians but by waves?

Perhaps no two pieces of music ever sounded the same for the tunes of this ‘instrument’ are created by waves of differing power. On the jetty of the Boat Harbour in the Marina district of San Francisco, lies the extraordinary Wave Organ which was completed in May 1986. A brainchild of the artist Peter Richards and master stonemason George Gonzalez, the organ was constructed out of pieces of granite and slabs of marble salvaged from the demolition of the Laurel Hill Cemetery in San Francisco. Upon reaching this ‘concert venue’, the organ appears like an ancient Roman ruin. Pick a nice VIP seat on the stone platforms and enjoy the music created by the Mother Nature’s orchestra. With a band of 25 PVC Organ pipes and concrete located at various elevations within the site, the sounds are created by the impact of waves crashing against the structures. Visit at high tide when the Wave Organ is supposed to sound the best. With all that said, the music produced from the organ is sure to make “waves” in the music industry!
