Wanshou Temple (萬壽寺)

A unique temple which also houses the Beijing Art Museum.

Located on Suzhou Street in the Haidian district of Beijing lies the famous Wanshou Temple. This Buddhist temple also houses the Beijing Art Museum, and was constructed in 1577 during the Wanli era of the Ming dynasty. An amazing repository of Chinese Buddhist scriptures is housed here, with it being proclaimed as one of Beijing's key sites of cultural preservation in 1979. With a permanent collection of 70,000 items, you can find all sorts of items here. These include precious historical relics such as bronze and jade artefacts from the Shang and Zhou dynasties. You can also appreciate the beauty of rare collections of Chinese paintings and calligraphy, as well as Chinese weavings and embroideries belonging to the Ming and Qing dynasties. This temple is more than just a place of worship. It is also a treasure trove of ancient Chinese culture.

Tips Before You Go
The museum has free entries on certain days, although this is limited to the first 200 visitors. It can get rather crowded on weekends, so it is advised that you visit on a weekday instead.
