Volefossen Waterfall

Volefossen, one of the gems in the spectacular Oldedalen valley, is not to be missed.

Located at the head of the Oldedalen Valley, the Volefossen waterfall is just one of the many breathtaking waterfalls the valley has to offer. Yet, along with the Kleivafossen waterfall, Volefossen is considered to be the most beautiful waterfalls in the region.

Fed by a series of lakes and glaciers, the waterfall has a staggering height of 400 metres, with a single drop measuring approximately 275 metres. Its location is extremely convenient for visitors and tourists as it is near the Briksdalselva River and the Kleivafossen and is on the way for those hiking up to the Briksdal Glacier.

Of course, like the many other waterfalls in the region, the best time to visit the Volefossen is in the summer, when the weather is warm and melts the surrounding ice, allowing the Volefossen to carry more water and thereby adding to its lustre. Should you desire to take some extravagant pictures, the morning is a good time to visit due to the absence of backlight!
