Villarrica

The snowy beast.

As one of Chile’s most active volcanoes, Villarrica is also known by locals (in the Mapuche language) as “The Devil’s House”. Rising majestically above the surrounding adventure wonderland at an impressive 3,000m in height, the Villarrica Volcano stuns and dazzles with its imposing stature and stunning 360 panoramas of the surrounding landscape from its summit.

Ski enthusiasts and snowboarders flock to the volcano’s snow-covered slopes to whiz down its thrilling paths and ramps created by decades of lava flow, whilst hiking enthusiasts will love the challenge of summiting the volcano amidst often unpredictable weather conditions. Visit the quaint and charming town of Pucon as a base to explore the volcano – there’s aplenty to do there, including: rafting, mountain biking, riding quads or horses, and enjoying authentic Mapuche cuisine.

Tips Before You Go
Visitors have to take a guided tour to summit the volcano, as the terrain is difficult and dangerous in the event of sudden weather changes. As a bonus, visitors get to slide down the volcano (depending on the tour). How fun!
Plan ahead for the hike, bring lots of water and snacks, and check your equipment before beginning your hike up the imposing volcano (especially the crampons and gas mask).
