Discovered only recently in the 20th century, the villa remains as one of Pompeii’s most precious gems. Boasting 60 rooms in its 40,000 square metre space, the villa hosted several social events such as sumptuous parties.

Carefully excavated after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, the villa has continued to be well-maintained, with the frescoes that adorn the walls still in good condition. The most spectacular fresco can be found in the dining room, with life-sized figures depicting a ritual for an initiation. Initiations were sacred rituals signifying individuals that had transitioned into greater phases of lives. An important rite of passage, this very fresco showcases the psychological transition of young girls into the roles of married women. Luxury drips from the walls of this villa, home to even a wine-press! Lavish rooms for dining and entertainment can be found here, adorned with detailed frescoes along the walls. Remaining a part of the site, gifted with the title of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this villa has withstood the test of time, continuing to educate all about the lives before us.
