Villa Floridiana

Tranquility in the midst of the city.

The Villa Floridiana is a Neo-Classical villa and the former palace of the King of the Two Sicilies. Overlooking Chiaia and Mergellina, the villa is situated in verdant greenery and offers space for quiet retrospection before you reach its doors. You can enjoy stunning views of the gulf at the back of the house, and squeal at the adorable terrapins sunbathing in their large pond. Of course, there is even more to see within the villa, for it houses the National Museum of Ceramics.

Begin your journey at the vestibule, where you can admire the elegant paintings of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon and the Duchess Floridia, from whom the villa gets its name. You can find treasures from centuries past, including the biggest collections of decorative art in Italy, from the 12th to 19th centuries. Gaze at the porcelain, majolica, and furniture, which originated from Placido de Sangro’s collection, or snap pictures of the sketches by Neapolitan artists. There are plenty of other items, like glass and crystal items from the 15th to 18th century, and artifacts that date back to the Middle Ages! With so much to see and do, you will find yourself wanting to come back to the vicinity of the villa if only for the peace and quiet you can enjoy here.
