Viking Ship Museum

Viking ships can be found everywhere at this novel museum.

When people hear of Vikings, what usually pops into their minds is the stereotypical blonde haired pillager with horns on his helmet, riding on a majestic ship. The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo is the perfect place to dispel any misconceptions you may have of these people, and also learn more about the Viking Age. Most importantly, at this museum, you can learn more about Viking ships and how they were made. See some of the world’s best preserved Viking ships with your very own eyes. Some ships on display include the Oseburg ship, a sophisticated ship with intricate wood carvings, the Gokstad ship, a fast Oak ship made in the 9th century, and the Tune Viking ship, smaller than the other 2 ships, but great for sailing. Why don’t you drop by and see these sturdy behemoths, as well as many other artefacts that have been preserved at the Viking Ship Museum.

Tips Before You Go
You can reach the museum by taking bus 30 from the City Hall all year round, or in the summer (April-October), you can opt to take the ferry to the Bygdøy Peninsula. While there might not be much to see here as compared to other, more traditional museums, the sight of imposing Viking ships will surely leave you in awe. Don’t forget to catch a screening in the hall here as well. It is just so incredibly atmospheric that you will probably not want to leave at all.
