Verona Cathedral

One of Verona’s many treasures.

The Verona Cathedral was the first in Verona, and it was consecrated by 380 AD. The magnificent building that is the cathedral was not the first, for the original basilicas had been destroyed by earthquakes or fires. Modeled in the Gothic style, the cathedral makes for a picturesque sight from afar. Photographers will definitely be delighted to picture it from the west front, where its pediment and two-storied projecting porch add an inexplicable elegance to the façade. Upon a closer look, you will see that two griffins are supporting the portico.

Walking into the church will feel as amazing as it did to look at it from outside. The central nave holds a massive space and tall pilasters of red Verona marble, all leading up to the Main Chapel, with its stunning frescoes by Sanmichelli. Of course, the other chapels have equally awe-inspiring works, such as the Capella Nichesola with the well-known altarpiece “Assumption” by Titian, and the “Adoration of the Magi” in the second chapel. With such beauty to explore and marvel at, you definitely can’t miss out on a visit to the Verona Cathedral!
