USS Midway Museum

Jump aboard an unforgettable adventure on the USS Midway, a large navy ship that carries an even larger history.

Docked in downtown San Diego, the USS Midway, once America’s longest-serving aircraft carrier, provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to guests of all ages to explore the ship. Immerse yourself in an interactive experience that documents the lives of the 225,000 young men and sailors who served on Midway. You will be surprised at the enormous size of the ship and understand why it is appropriately labelled the ‘floating city’. You can tour the flight deck to view the 29 actual restored aircraft on display or try out the immersive flight simulators. There is also a brief but well-documented film about the Battle of Midway. A self-guided audio tour is provided at the entrance narrated by Midway sailors in multiple languages that gives a personal insight into life on the ship.

There are many volunteers on the aircraft carrier, mostly Navy veterans, who would be more than willing to tell you their stories and further value-add to the experience of the tour. If you are hungry for some picturesque shots, head up to the flight deck for spectacular views of the San Diego Bay Bridge, other US Navy ships in the sea, and the downtown skyline.
