Uppsala Castle (Uppsala Slott)

Subject to a disastrous fire, this castle was destroyed but now stands as an iconic landmark of Sweden.

Built in the 16th century, it was intended to be a fortress. Throughout the years, it played witness to many events, from the Sture murders and most tragically, the 1702 fire which left it in ruins. Thankfully, the ruins had resulted in the castle blossoming into the iconic landmark it is now.

The castle was given a fresh new look, boasting a striking terracotta colour that many recognise it for now. Today, the castle continues to be the iconic landmark, housing 3 museums in its residences. The Uppsala Art Museum, House of Peace and Vasaborgen are all found here, each with their distinctive character that greatly value adds to Uppsala Castle’s beauty, in and out. The castle boasts beautiful interior and exterior, with decadent rooms, decked out with some of the most splendid paintings from world famous collections. Facing a spectacular body of water, as night falls, you are in for a treat. Acting literally like a mirror, the midnight sky shines a mystical light over the entire city as the lake reflects a crystal-clear image of the castle, draped in gorgeous light. A spectacular sight to behold, this castle is no ordinary one.
