University of Sydney

One of the most beautiful renowned universities in the world.

The University of Sydney is not just an internationally acclaimed university, but also regarded as one of the most beautiful universities in the world. It was the first university established in Australia in 1850, and consists of 16 faculties and schools. There are also venues open for hire that can cater to events of all kinds including weddings. Its heritage neo-gothic buildings, vast parklands, museums and galleries make it a popular place of interest even for tourists and culture vultures.

Apart from being known for their sandstone "Hogwarts-style" buildings, you might want to explore the Nicholson Museum, the oldest university museum in Australia, featuring works of art by their own students. The Graffiti Tunnel perhaps epitomises the spirit of the freedom of expression of the students, originating from the times of the Vietnam War as an outlet to reveal their frustration towards the protracted nature of the war and the spending of soldiers to fight this exhausting war. If you do not find yourself sharing an affinity with such art works, you can also opt to appreciate music at the Quad. Do keep a lookout for the Carillon, a baroque organ and one of the largest musical instruments in the world. There are carillon recitals every Sunday afternoon, and you can even send in special requests to the University of Sydney's carillionist for your favourite piece of music to be played.
