A testament to South Africa as a picturesque destination.
Located in South Africa’s capital Cape Town, the Twelve Apostles is a series of mountains that form the back of the famous Table Mountain. It was once termed Kasteelbergen (also known as Castle Mountains) when South Africa was still governed by the Dutch due to the buttresses resembling various castle features. Some of each buttresses are even named accordingly, such as Postern – a castle’s back entrance. Presently, the mountain range is named after Jesus’ disciples, but it is often debated that the actual number is closer to twenty. To fully indulge in the beauty of the area, one can opt to cruise along the Atlantic Ocean to be treated with ostensibly endless sights of spectacular nature. For the adventurous lot, hiking in the mountain range is also possible. There are more than 26 hiking routes to choose from, with the most common one coined Kasteelspoort or Castle’s Portal. Regardless of which trail you embark on, you will be able to experience remnants of the land’s history as well as stunning sea views. It doesn’t matter whether you drive or hike as the Twelve Apostles is guaranteed to take your breath away.
