Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

A somber reminder about the horrors of Cambodia’s past.

Just mentioning the name Pol Pot is enough to send a shiver down the spine of those aware of his reign. At the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Cambodia, you will learn just how atrocious this dictator really was. Formerly a secret prison under the codename of S-21 and before that, a typical high school building that you would expect to find in downtown Phnom Penh, these walls hold ghastly tales of the unfortunate souls who were tortured and murdered here. In fact, there are detailed records including background information of each victim, similar to the work of the Nazis during the Holocaust. Today, the museum holds photographic evidence of the pain and degradation inflicted on the victims and when the Vietnamese army intervened in 1979 to rescue the prisoners, merely 7 people survived among the thousands upon thousands held captive.

Learn about the horrifying past of Cambodia under the tyrannical ruler, Pol Pot, by paying a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum soon.
