Troldhaugen Villa

The former home of famed Norweigan composer Edvard Grieg and the wellspring of his creations.

An unassuming seafront house, Troldhaugen Villa was a spacious sanctuary for Norweigan composer Edvard Grieg and his wife for the last twenty two years. Housing Edvard’s composer hut, an in-house concert hall, a scenic garden, and the couples’ gravesite, the villa is now a living museum that documents the composer’s life. Despite its modest façade, the opulent and luxurious interior is filled with key objects from Edvard’s life, making for an immersive tour. The concert hall, known as Troldsalen, is an ingenious architectural work that features a stunning view of the composer’s hut and a lake as its backdrop whilst retaining superb acoustics. Attending a concert here, which fortunately runs daily in the summer, would be a treat not just for your ears, but for your eyes as well. In fact, you might end up too distracted by the beautiful sights to even focus on the music. The remote Troldhaugen Villa is a charming place that is not solely for music aficionados – you will fall in love with the beautiful landscape that inspired Edvard’s music as well.
