Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.
Towering at an impressive height of 1900 metres, Tram Ton Pass (also known as Heaven’s Gate) is Vietnam’s highest mountain pass, and divides the region into two different weather fronts. This bizarre but interesting change in climate means that on the Sapa side, the weather is often cold and foggy, whereas drop but a few hundred metres onto the Lai Chau side, and the weather generally becomes warm and sunny. Due to this temperature difference, Sapa is often the coldest place in Vietnam, while Lai Chau can be one of the warmest.
Aside from the intriguing climate difference on either side of the Tram Ton Pass, this attraction offers scenic, panoramic views of the impressive mountain ranges in the region, including the magnificent Fansipan mountain. Situated about 15-kilometres from Sapa town, Tram Ton Pass is ideal for trekking or hiking, and is perfect for nature lovers, hiking enthusiasts, and aspiring photographers alike with its unparalleled, breath-taking beauty.
