Tradgardsforeningen

Rise and shine, the roses here are worth your time.

The Tradgardsforeningen is not just a mouthful, but something you must take an eyeful of as well. Also known as the Garden Society of Gothenburg, this park cum garden commands the respect of anyone who visits. Commissioned in the 19th century by King Charles XIV John of Sweden, this spot still manages to maintain its old-world charm, but in no way does the flora growing there look old. A prime example is the Palm House that has been the gem of this park since the 1870s, crafted from glass and cast iron, and filled with plants that thrive in a more tropical climate. Roses are red, pink, white, and basically any colour you could possibly imagine here. This magnificent Rosarium is home to more than 1200 roses, and is segregated into 3 areas – the Rosovalen with its modern types, the Rosparken with the more traditional types, and the Rosarkivet dedicated to the types found in the west of the country. For an unforgettable horticultural experience, look no further than the Tradgardsforeningen.
