Get up close and personal with native birds and animals at this wildlife reserve in Victoria.
When traveling along the Great Ocean Road, make sure you visit Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve. Located in the west of Warrnambool, Victoria, Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve is Victoria’s first National Park and continues to be an extraordinary place since its opening in 1892. It all began with a violent volcanic eruption that happened around 30,000 years ago, resulting in an enormous crater with beds of volcanic ash. The inside of the volcanic crater has island-hills that join to form a wildlife reserve.
Flora and fauna take center stage here with over 300,000 species of trees and more than 200 native kangaroos and koalas. Tower Hill is also rich in Aboriginal history, with its origins stemming from the Gunditjmara nation. Today, the visitor center is managed by the Worn Gundidj Aboriginal Cooperative, where you can join guided walks and purchase aboriginal arts and crafts to take home with you. There will also be a chance to spot adorable animals such as possums, emus and koalas among others, which are sure to keep your little ones squealing in delight!
