Titus Canyon

A large, deep gorge straddling California’s Grapevine Mountains.

The Titus Canyon is a deep, narrow gorge which straddles the Grapevine Mountains of the Mojave Desert. It is situated within Death Valley National Park in the southeastern part of California. Most of the rock formations within the canyon date back to more than half a billion years ago. In the vicinity of the canyon, there used to be several mining towns like Leadfield but are now deserted due to its tough living conditions. If you are fortunate enough, you might just discover several petroglyphs which were carved by the Timbisha Native Americans on the rock surfaces. To access the canyon, you can do so by foot from the west via Death Valley or by motor vehicles from the east via Nevada.
