Tinuy-an Falls

The little Niagara Falls of the Philippines.

Situated about an hour away from Bislig city in Surigao del Sur, Tinuy-an Falls is a popular tourist attraction renowned for its natural magnificence and splendour. Touted as the little Niagara Falls of the Philippines, this 55-metres high, 95-metres wide waterfall is said to be the widest waterfall in the Philippines, and inspires visitors with its raw demonstration of power and natural beauty.

This multi-tiered waterfall derived its name from an intriguing legend, in which the slaves of the Magdiwata Mountain intentionally killed their abusive masters by pushing the bamboo raft they were on into the falls. This intentional act or performance to achieve a specific objective or goal is known as “Tinuyo-an” in native vernacular, and gave rise to the falls current name. At Tinuy-an Falls, visitors will be enthralled by the charming, unspoiled nature of the falls, and be entertained by a variety of fun and exciting activities, including swimming, hiking, bird-watching, or picnicking, making for a memorable, relaxing day trip out of the bustling Bislig city.
