Easily Berlin’s most popular inner-city park!
The Tiergarten is a park in Berlin located in the district of the same name, famous for being one of the largest urban gardens in the country. It spans a whopping 210 hectares, and attracts tons of tourists and locals almost every single day, with its large spaces being a great place to organise picnics or else just engage in some light sports. For those travelling with children, the Berlin Zoo is located within the Tiergarten itself, making it highly convenient for you to drop by and keep the kids entertained as you explore the zoo and look at the various animals housed here.
If you come in the winter, you can even try ice skating on some of the ponds, which are typically frozen solid during winter. But if you don’t think that your schedule will allow you to visit during that period, do not fret as the other seasons have proved to be as charming for a relaxing stroll in the park. Keep your eyes peeled for two significant monuments sitting at the eastern part of the park as well. They are the Memorial to Homosexuals Persecuted under Nazism and the Memorial to the Sinti and Roma Victims of National Socialism. These are poignant reminders of the atrocities committed in the span of human history, and will be a sombre experience as you soak in the relaxed atmosphere of the park. It’s guaranteed that there’ll be nothing else like it!
