The Twelve Apostles

If you have not heard of the Twelve Apostles, you might be living under a rock (pun intended).

If you are heading to the Great Ocean Road, the Twelve Apostles should undoubtedly be on your list. A collection of 45-metre high giant rock formations in the Southern Ocean of Victoria, Australia, The Twelve Apostles is one of the world-renowned natural wonders. The rock formations are caused by millions of years of erosion of the soft limestone carving out cliffs and later collapsing, leaving rock stacks.

Originally called The Sow and Pigs when they were first charted, it was renamed The Pinnacles, and eventually The Twelve Apostles, even though there were only nine stacks then. Today, only eight stacks remain as another one collapsed in 2005. Glorious at both sunrise and sunset, this is the place to be for breathtaking coastal views, and romantic scenic walks, as you listen to the waves crash against these extraordinary rock stacks.

Tips Before You Go
It is highly recommended that one visits the Twelve Apostles early in the morning, so as to avoid the large crowds and also to seize the best time to have your pictures taken, with natural lighting illuminating the mesmerising scene. As for those deciding which season to visit, coming anytime from January to March will be just right with neither too much rainfall nor sunshine.
