The Street of The Knights

One of the most admired attractions in the Old Town in Rhodes!

The Street of the Knights, otherwise known as Odos Ippoton, is one of the main attractions of the Medieval Town of Rhodos. It is a memorable and must-see place for all guided tours. The street travels through an almost east to west direction and features a well-preserved cobble paved road. Part of the street belongs to an ancient road that connected the port with the Aropolis of Rhodos. The ancient road is about 600m long and starts from the square in front of the Knights’ Hospital, leading all the way to the Grand Master’s Palace.

Seven imposing inns were built in the 16th century to represent the seven nations or ‘tongues’ that the Knights of the Order of St John came from and each had its own unique exterior reflecting that country. The finest of them all is still the Auberge de France built between 1492 and 1503. Be immersed in a place steeped in history and walk the streets, imagining knights walking amongst you, or perhaps riding away.
