The Sherlock Holmes Museum

Where fiction comes to life.

Who hasn’t heard of Sherlock Holmes? No matter if you love the television show or have been a die-hard fan of the stories, you’ll definitely find this museum anything but elementary. It even bears the address ‘221B Baker Street’ by special permission of the City of Westminster, despite being situated between numbers 237 and 241. The museum blurs the lines between fact and fiction by re-imagining the space in which Holmes was supposed to have lived and worked, making it seem as if he really was alive after all.

Familiar scenes from canon are lovingly re-created down to the minutest detail, with Holmes’s full array of scientific equipment on display in his laboratory, and his sitting room replete with an oft-described favourite armchair. See if you can spot sly references to the material that have been casually placed around the house, such as an ornamental cyclist sculpture that references the short story ‘The Adventure of the Solitary Cyclist.’ There is even an exhibition with full-sized waxworks from Holmes’s most famous cases that are so lifelike you might almost believe they were real. This museum is so attentive of detail that you’ll feel as if you’ve been transported right back to the Victorian era.
