The San Diego Museum of Art

It withstood the test of time to bring to you the finest art pieces.

The San Diego Museum of Art museum was first opened to the public in 1926 as the Fine Arts Gallery of San Diego. Since then, it has undergone many changes. The most significant one is perhaps during World War II when Pearl Harbour was attacked at the end of 1941. During this period, it safe kept its prized artworks in other art museums but still operated until 1943. It was ordered to give way to military use and was converted into a hospital by the United States Navy before finally resuming its operations in 1947.

Today, the museum houses exhibitions and collection galleries that contain artworks dating back to 5,000BC. These works delineate a diverse range of styles and the talents of many artists. Every Friday, the Museum stays open later than usual to bring to you a special promotion called “Art After Hours”, where visitors can have access to both the Museum’s galleries as well as special exhibitions. Various events are also available throughout the week, so do keep a lookout for the calendar of events that is available the museum’s website.
