The Salto Grande

This will prove to be as thrilling as your favorite action movie, if not more!

If you’re visiting the Torres del Paine National Park, there’s no doubt that you will be hard-pressed to choose what you want to see, from towering mountains to stunning lakes and the wonderful range of wildlife. If you want to cover the must-see spots, then the Salto Grande is one of them! Photographers, get your cameras ready to capture the magic of this place.

Surrounded by craggy hills carpeted in shades of olive, water from Lake Nordenskjöld crashes down the narrow chute in an impressive show of power. The size certainly doesn’t compare to some of the world’s most famous waterfalls (at 15 meters tall), but don’t let that undermine the stunning force with which the water flows. The turquoise waters are almost hypnotizing in their lovely color, and the accompanying snow-covered Paine Grande in the distance makes for a breathtaking sight. The water’s color originates from the sediment in the lake and you can trace the rush of water, all the while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere that permeates the place.
