Upon hearing the word ‘forge,’ one immediately thinks of a blazing furnace where rudimentary weapons were made in medieval times. Indeed, the Rademacher Forges have been around for a long while- an astonishing 350 years to be exact. Throughout that time, the blacksmiths and artisans working there have plied their craft faithfully. Among the range of tools are knives, scissors, locks, hinges, needles, and a whole host of other iron-crafted materials. Watch the sparks fly and the iron slowly come to life in the hands of these skilled artisans, who are still active and going about their business today. But there’s more to see here than sweaty craftsmen hard at work. In the compound, you will find museum exhibits and stories that give you a little more insight into this mysterious world. Among these exhibits are a smithy and a forge, as well as a famed knife workshop where you can find blades of every shape and size imaginable. A visit there will open your eyes to a world you would never have dreamt of seeing! Unless of course you’re a fan of medieval-themed TV shows, because then you’re bound to have seen blacksmiths at work loads of times.

Tips Before You Go
At one of the forges you can find Smetuna, which is an educational environment directed at children up to ten years of age. They can play at being smiths in the forges, and this exhibition is only open from July to August. After all, children might not find the forges particularly interesting, so this is a good way for them to develop their curiosity.
