The Mont-Fort (Nendaz)

The alpine experience of a lifetime.

Buried deep in Switzerland is Mont-Fort, a glorious high-peaked mountain that doesn’t quite get as much recognition as it deserves. A member of the Pennine Alps, its stark lines are a breathtaking sight against the blue skyline. At over 3000 meters high, being on top of Mont-Fort is an almost otherworldly experience, and one you won’t forget anytime soon. No matter if you go in winter or in summer, the same snow-capped summit is always there to welcome you. What adds to the rugged charm are the several glaciers that surround the northern side of the mountain, and the charming little lake tucked away on its southern flank.

You can start your journey in the valley of Nendaz and make your way to the peak by cable car, admiring how the snowdrifts increase as you journey upwards. Once you are at the top, a 20-meter stone staircase leads up to the peak itself. This summit walk offers a clear view of the nearby glacier and high mountains, an alpine view that is sure to quite literally take your breath away. Going down, you can choose to take a cablecar or make the ride down with skis. Whatever you choose, it’s bound to be an exhilarating experience.
