Situated in Greater Manchester, the Lowry is a theatre and gallery complex which gained its reputable name from the early 20th-century painter L.S. Lowry, who was renowned for his works of industrial scenes in Northwestern England. Opened officially by Queen Elizabeth II herself, the entire complex contains 2000m2 of gallery space displaying Lowry's and other artists' works. At the heart of the complex are two theatres and a drama studio, of which the Lyric Theatre sits 1730 people while The Quays sits an additional 466. Known to host plays, musicals and comedy events, The Lyric Theatre has the largest stage in the United Kingdom.
