The Hash, Marijuana and Hemp Museum is another unusual, highly interesting museum in Amsterdam that is worth a visit if you are a Cannabis lover and keen on learning more about the medicinal and recreational use of the plant, together with some thought-provoking questions on its history and function in society. Offering an extensive collection of over 12,000 historical artefacts and documents about the Cannabis Sativa L. plant, the museum not only functions as a knowledge and information centre for those keen on learning more about Cannabis, but also facilitates current scientific research on the different plant strains. The museum comprises of 2 smaller museums – the first showcases exhibitions explaining the different functions of hemp and cannabis (which are just different strains of the same plant), and the second displays exhibitions which focus more on the modern use of Cannabis, and its long-standing history and tradition with the arts. The museum also houses informative displays on the medicinal, religious and cultural uses for hash (Cannabis resin).
