The Battlebox

Learn more about the Battle of Singapore during WWII here.

One of the major tourist destinations in Singapore, The Battlebox is a museum dedicated to the final days of the Battle of Singapore, before it fell into Japanese hands in 1942 during World Wat II. This former underground bunker, built in 1936, was used as an emergency bomb-proof command center during the Malayan Campaign and the Battle of Singapore.

Located nine meters below ground at the Fort Canning Park, visitors will be taken back in time with the help of dioramas, audio and video effects as they explore the 26 rooms within. See how the British plotted, albeit unsuccessfully, the various defence strategies, and gain a better understanding of the events leading up to the surrender of Singapore and eventually what is termed as the "worst disaster and largest capitulation in British history".
