The Bastion

What was once a fortification against the enemy is now a handy lookout for picturesque scenery.

Perched on the Rocchetta mountain is this Bastion hailing from the 16th century, where the town people needed protection after the Venetian domination of Riva finally ended. In 1703, French troops attacked the tower and ruined it, mining the central body and rendering the fort useless. However, the bastion still serves a purpose as a fantastic lookout point for the people of today.

Made of grey stone bricks which appear to be haphazardly put together, the top is crumbling apart, creating a rustic look. Just a few minutes from the harbor by car, or a half an hour walk up to the lookout through black pine woods, the bastion offers unbeatable views of the Riva Del Garda. The serene, rich blue lake lies below, the surface dotted with hundreds of scattered boats and windsurfers enjoying being on the water. After you get your blood pumping in an invigorating uphill climb, chill out with a tummy filling, delicious meal washed down with an ice cold beer at the Bar Ristorante Belvedere Bastione.
