Teylers Museum

Open up the “cabinet of curiosities” in the Teylers Museum to enter the world of the Enlightenment.

What started in 1784 as a haven for the arts and sciences to flourish without influence from the church has become the Netherlands’s oldest museum, and a beautiful homage to the progress of human society throughout the centuries. The museum contains all things related to arts and science, ranging from fossils to engineering marvels and sketches.

At the Teylers Museum, you can expect to travel back to the dawn of time with its tremendous collection of fossils and natural minerals, rediscover key scientific principles using the now-obsolete physical instruments, and trace the creation of a masterpiece using sketches of artists like Rembrandt. The museum retains much of its original design, with its artefacts and collections stored in vintage-looking bell jars and glass cases.

Housed under a lofty glass-vaulted ceiling to let in natural light, the museum continues to inspire minds and instil wonder in its visitors.
