Tegenungan Waterfall

Enjoy the splendor of nature without breaking a sweat at Tegenungan Waterfall.

A steady thrum, the roar of water cascading several meters before being dashed against rock: one hears the song of Tegenungan Waterfall even before they see the face behind the enticing sound. Tegenungan’s fame partly comes from how accessible it is. Here, there’s no need for any of the heavy hiking required at other spots throughout Bali. Even the roads leading to it are a red carpet compared to some others in the area, seeing travelers from both Ubud and Bali’s provincial capital making their way to the falls daily.

You might be surprised when you step into this bubble of nature, surrounded on all sides by lush tropical greens and towering rainforest trees. The swish of palms are a merry accompaniment to the waterfall’s melody as you approach the clearing of the falls, 27m of sheer water hitting the pool below. It’s a curtain of white draped over rock, looking breathtaking no matter which angle you point your camera at. Shallow waters deepening closer to the falls, the site welcomes both amateur swimmers and veteran waterfall enthusiasts. Before you leave, you’re strongly encouraged to take a bite of the much-loved crispy fried duck at the eatery out front, a savory end to a trip that plays with all your senses.

Tips Before You Go
The water volume is greatest during the wet season between October and April but the Tegenungan flows throughout the year. There aren’t many safety concerns regarding these falls but the plunge pools are to be avoided right after heavy showers. Flash floods are not common but it’s better to err on the side of caution.
