Tazekka National Park

Morocco is not only blessed with a long history and a rich culture, but also with an abundance of natural landscapes. The Tazekka National Park is a fine example of that.

The smell of trees dominates the Tazekka National Park, with there being a diverse range of forests making up this immense natural landscape. From cork oak to cedar trees and even holm oak, the smell of nature has never been more intense. This national park is located in the northern city of Taza, which is some 300 kilometres away from Rabat. Besides the various species of trees here, many species of wildlife also call this place their home. Wild Barbary boars can be seen in the forest undergrowth at times, provided you pay enough attention to the shaking bushes and the sound of twigs being trampled on. Other small creatures, such as porcupines and hares, are even more elusive, being extremely silent. While there are many trails to explore here, you should always be careful if you are walking on one that leads to caves or canyons. After all, this is the natural habitat of the golden jackal, which are proud and fierce creatures. It would seem as if there is danger at every turn, but in actual fact, the true danger here would be us humans. The national park was gazetted in 1950 in order to protect the wildlife in the area, with nature lovers flocking here all the time to admire its beauty. As guests, that is precisely what we should do. Simply admire nature in all of its glory as we trek across the park and enjoy the sights.
