Taquile Island

A curious spot in the vast blue.

When we say vast blue, we mean the sea. And Taquile Island is a 5.5 by 1.6-kilometer island lying in it, home to some 2000-over people. If these dimensions and particulars don’t catch your attention, then the livelihood of the island’s men just might! Far from what you might expect, it’s the men who knit here; women spin wool and use various vegetables and minerals to dye the wool used by the entire community.

Set foot on this lovely island with its stunning seascapes and enjoy a night or two on the island, certain to be a unique experience as it will be a homestay! There's plenty of cultural activities for you to partake in, and plenty of restaurants offering local delicacies. Don't forget to snap pictures of the lambs sunning along the roads, gazing soulfully out to sea. If you’re in need of some inspiration, you could always settle next to them and reflect on the ingenuity of humans. In fact, “Taquile and Its Textile Art” was given its place under “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO. Don’t forget to take your iconic picture at the stone archway, the tasteful entrance to an unforgettable experience!
