From afar off, this building looks like something straight out of a science fiction movie. It consists of a giant rectangular structure that sits atop a glass building, and this structure is what immediately grabs the attention. Designed to look like an ‘electronic jewelbox sitting on a glass pedestal,’ the structure’s inimitable surface is made of aluminium, glass and studded with fiber optic colour-changing lights that make the building itself look like a work of art. In the daytime, this structure appears smooth and inscrutable, but at night is when the real magic happens. The surface lights up with an explosion of colour that gives a stunning depth and life to the building, creating an effect that will definitely leave you awestruck. The installation is called ‘Sky,’ and does indeed remind the viewer of the ceaseless but constantly shifting depths of our own sky. This brilliant display is representative of the dynamic artwork that you can find inside, many of which are constantly changing. Both ancient and modern, it balances a growing collection of ancient Greek and Roman antiquities with an increasingly avant-garde series of temporary exhibitions. An afternoon spent here will definitely inspire and uplift your soul.
