Taiwan’s first contemporary art museum!

The Taipei Fine Arts Museum is situated in Zhongshan district, Taipei, Taiwan. It is located within the Taipei Expo Park and was officially opened on August 8, 1983. The site where the museum is currently located was formerly that of the United States Taiwan Defence Command. It remains famous for being Taiwan’s first contemporary art museum, exhibiting an extensive collection of artworks, while its modern architecture is an adaptation of the Japanese Metabolist Movement. The museum’s collection mainly focuses on the fine art history of Taiwan and several of its exhibits include acquired works of Taipei Biennial, acquired works of Venice Biennial Taiwan Pavilion, as well as works from Taipei Arts Awards. The museum is easily accessible – all you need to do is to simply take a short walk from Yuanshan Station along Taipei Metro.

Tips Before You Go
The museum’s permanent collection is rather small, but it does have a constantly rotating collection of artworks, so you will never know what you are going to see until you actually visit. If you’re lucky, you’ll be able to see artworks that explore Taiwan’s rather fractured past, which will definitely leave you feeling all sorts of conflicting emotions.
