Hafrsfjord, Norway
Sverd I Fjell

A trinity of giant swords lanced atop a small rock hill by a fjord.

Standing at 10 meters tall, Sverd I Fjell is a mighty monument commemorating the momentous Battle of Hafrsfjord, which was what led to the unification of Norway. Casting stunning reflections on the water surface when viewed from across the adjacent water inlet, the stunning masterpiece cuts a striking silhouette against the sunny sky, creating a beautiful interplay of light and dark against the midnight blue sky when lit up at night. Whatever you do, it is impossible to take an unflattering shot of Sverd I Fjell. Each intricately carved sword is modelled after real Viking swords found in different parts of Norway, with the largest of them representing the victorious King Harold who led the legendary battle. This quintessential yet unique part of Norwegian scenery is a historic landmark that cannot be missed.

Tips Before You Go
On weekends, the monument is not crowded at all, but unfortunately, the bus service is infrequent as well. You can expect to wait for a relatively long time if you’re taking the bus. Taxis on the other hand are a lot more expensive here, seeing as it is rather out of the way. You might want to visit on a weekday instead for your own convenience.
