West Hollywood, United States of America
Sunset Strip

This iconic stretch of road has plenty of character.

The most legendary portion of Sunset Boulevard, this stretch of road holds every aspect of Los Angeles’ inimitable culture condensed into a concentrated, intoxicating mix. It’s endless party life and cultural center all rolled up in one: it was a hotspot for counterculture protests in the ‘60s, as well as the rock’n’roll decadence of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Taking center stage for so much of LA’s colorful history has made it one of the most iconic neighborhoods in the city. Today the place is a lot tamer, but it still maintains its reputation for vibrant nightlife. You can have your pick of anything, from old-school grunge clubs like Whisky a Go Go and The Viper Room to hardcore rock settings like The Roxy, which hosted the premiere of The Rocky Horror Show in 1974. Whichever establishment you head to, there’s bound to be a fascinating story tied up in its past. You could go anywhere and do anything—with the bright play of neon signs and street lamps at night, every corner you turn will be an adventure.

Tips Before You Go
It’s always a good idea to bring a camera around with you, as you never know what—or who—you might see! And if you would rather visit in the daytime, you can always grab a bite at the numerous restaurants or check out Book Soup, LA’s largest independent bookstore.
