Sunset Plaza

A classic series of buildings.

A brightly-lit LED sign announces its presence: Sunset Plaza is a low-lying complex of shops that invites people to stay awhile. Over a hundred years ago, the place was still overgrown with orchards and poinsettia fields. Major thoroughfares had not yet been constructed. Things only started to change when pioneer developer Francis Montgomery built the original collection of shops and restaurants that would later come to be known as Sunset Plaza. Today, little about it has changed. Residents say that it looks almost the same as it did when it first started out, the atmosphere of the place even though tenants come and go. It’s a place that’s chock full of history: the old Hollywood glamor clubs like the Mocambo and the Trocadero had a booming business in the ‘40s and the ‘50s. It looked like something out of a movie set. These days, the space is shared by a mix of restaurants, nightclubs, haberdashers, boutiques and other tenants, all of whom make up the inimitable urban fabric of West Hollywood. So if you’re tired of the ceaseless motor traffic along Sunset Boulevard, this is a good place to stop and admire the spectacular views for a while.
