Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (國父紀念館)

Memorial hall for the founding father of the Republic of China.

Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866 – 1925) was a revered figure for people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Depending on which side you are from, he is either the Father of the Nation to the Taiwanese, or the forerunner of democratic revolution to the mainland Chinese.

No matter the stance is, there is no denying his achievements. The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall was built in 1972 as a tribute to him. Inside, exhibits showcasing his accomplishments and achievements are on display. Intended to display relics of Sun’s life, the hall is also opened for performances and exhibitions today. At the main entrance of the hall is a statue of Sun himself, and visitors should not miss out on the hourly changing of the guards’ ceremony. Scarily precise, the ceremony is definitely a sight to behold. Surrounding the hall is the Zhongshan Park, also named after Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
