Summer Palace (頤和園)

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Summer Palace is replete with attractions.

A seemingly endless ensemble of pavilions, palaces, and lakes, the Summer Palace is an imperial garden dating back to the Qing Dynasty. Spanning 2.9 square kilometers, the beautiful landscape of the Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake is harmoniously dotted with pavilions, palaces, temples, and bridges - perfectly resembling an exquisite Chinese painting.

Built to entertain the imperial court, the Summer Palace is full of places and things to see. Divided into six different scenic areas: the Halls, Longevity Hill, Kunming Lake, the Farming and Weaving Picture Scenic Area, the Long Corridor and the Central Axis area, there will certainly be something for everyone. The exquisite architecture is so designed to optimise fengshui, creating a harmonious atmosphere whereby parts of the palace are attuned with nature. This contributes to the serene qualities that are present here, giving visitors gorgeous views while you appreciate the tranquillity. So head on down to admire the picturesque landscape and look out for an interesting 96-meter long stone boat made of marble.

Tips Before You Go
Make sure you set aside enough time to visit all the attractions that make up the Summer Palace. The Longevity Hill will take you the longest, seeing as you\'ll need to climb for at least 3 hours. The palace isn\'t open 24/7 either, so you should try to come as early as possible if you wish to see everything! Don\'t forget to put on comfortable shoes, because you can definitely expect to do a fair bit of walking.
